Tal y como ha podido comprobar este medio, vecinos de Orihuela Costa ya avisaron al alcalde, José Vegara, al concejal de la costa, Manuel Mestre, y el concejal de infraestructuras, Victor Valverde, sobre el mal estado de las ramblas de Orihuela Costa, su insalubridad, falta de mantenimiento y peligro de incendio. Por otra parte, PIOC acusa al alcalde Vegara (PP) de mentir ya que no es cierto que ofreciera el Complejo Deportivo Municipal a los 50 desalojados, tal y como afirmo en un video institucional.
En concreto, el presidente de la AA.VV Costa de Campoamor, Jesús Gil, dirigió el pasado uno de noviembre un escrito donde se avisaba del “riesgo de incendio por la densa masa forestal y maleza de materiales de rápida combustión que pone en peligro todas las zonas urbanas que transcurre el cauce, como ya ocurrió este verano”. Dicha petición no ha sido atendida a pesar de reiterarla al ayuntamiento por distintos medios.
El pasado cinco de mayo, el presidente de dicha asociación, interpelo directamente al concejal de la costa, Manuel Mestre, en el turno de preguntas vecinales de la Junta de Distrito sobre la limpieza de las ramblas. Gil describió al concejal de la costa el estado de abandono de las ramblas, hizo notar la obligación municipal de mantenerlas en sus tramos urbanos en base a la legislación vigente y exigió su limpieza.
Mestre contestó que se había limpiado la rambla del Rio Nacimiento, aunque solo en el tramo de la playa al puente de Campoamor (ver fotografía del concejal paseando por el tramo desbrozado), y pidió al vecino que se le presentara la petición por escrito, lo que Gil manifestó haber hecho diez u once veces sin recibir contestación. Tal y como se demuestra por el documento anexo, la solicitud no solo se le había presentado el uno de noviembre del 2024, sino que la petición también iba dirigida al alcalde y al concejal de infraestructuras, ambos del Partido Popular.
Consecuencias del incendio: casas afectadas, heridos y mentiras del alcalde
El incendio que afecto a Las Ramblas de Oleza en Orihuela Costa ha causado daños materiales por el humo y el calor en no menos de cuatro viviendas, arrasado tres hectáreas de monte bajo y motivado algún accidente personal con lesiones debido a la tensión de la momento, cuando las llamas se acercaron a las viviendas.
Por otra parte, vecinos de la urbanización afectada han desmentido que el alcalde les ofreciera las instalaciones del Centro Deportivo Municipal ubicado en la costa para albergar a los 50 residentes afectados, tal y como José Vegara difundió en un video institucional. En este sentido, representantes de PIOC anuncian que pedirán en las juntas de distrito que “el alcalde pida perdón por sus mentiras”.
Petición de furgoneta de intervención rápida para las emergencias de la costa
PIOC (Partido por la Independencia de la Costa) tambien solicita que el ayutamiento habilite una furgoneta de intervención rapida para la extinción de incendios en la zona. Se trata de una pick-up o similar que pueda acudir en el menor tiempo posible para preparar el terreno a las dotaciones que se desplazan desde los pueblos de alrededor, principalmente Torrevieja.
Unidos x la Costa, en sus redes sociales, se ha hecho eco de la petición de la asociación Costa de Campoamor respecto a la limpieza de de las zonas de pinada y arboleda “ donde hay muchos arboles, maleza, basura… que podrían favorecer la formación y/o extensión de incendios, especialmente en epoca estival y de sequia”. La asociación vecina asegura haber trasladado al concejal de Emergencias, Victor Valverde, “la necesidad de mantener limpias y desbrozadas de maleza, cañizo, etc todas las ramblas y pinadas de la costa, tarea que es responsabilidad de la Concejalía de Medio Ambiente”.

Residents of Orihuela Costa warned the mayor of the danger of fire in the ramblas
As this newspaper has been able to verify, residents of Orihuela Costa have already warned the mayor, José Vegara, the councillor for the coast, Manuel Mestre, and the councillor for infrastructure, Victor Valverde, about the poor state of the ramblas of Orihuela Costa, their insalubrity, lack of maintenance and danger of fire.
On the other hand, PIOC accuses Mayor Vegara (PP) of lying because it is not true that he offered the Municipal Sports Complex to the 50 evictees, as he claimed in an institutional video.
Specifically, the president of the AA.VV Costa de Campoamor, sent a letter on November 1st warning of the ‘risk of fire due to the dense forest mass and undergrowth of fast burning materials that endanger all urban areas along the riverbed, as already happened this summer’. This request has not been heeded despite repeated requests to the council by various means.
On the 5th of May, Jesús Gil, president of the association, directly questioned the councillor for the coast, Manuel Mestre, during the District Council’s neighbourhood question time about the cleaning of the wadis. Gil described to the coastal councillor the state of abandonment of the wadis, pointed out the municipal obligation to maintain them in their urban sections in accordance with current legislation and demanded their cleanliness.
Mestre replied that the Nacimiento riverbed had been cleared, although only in the section from the beach to the Campoamor bridge (see photograph of the councillor walking along the cleared section), and asked the neighbour to submit the request in writing, which Gil said he had done ten or eleven times without receiving a reply. As can be seen from the attached document, the request was not only presented to him on 1 November 2024, but was also addressed to the mayor and the councillor for infrastructure, both from the Partido Popular.
Consequences of the fire: affected houses, injuries and lies of the mayor
The fire which affected Las Ramblas de Oleza in Orihuela Costa has caused material damage due to smoke and heat to no less than four houses, razed three hectares of scrubland and caused some personal injuries due to the tension of the moment, when the flames approached the houses.
On the other hand, neighbours of the affected urbanisation have denied that the mayor offered them the facilities of the Municipal Sports Centre located on the coast to house the 50 affected residents, as José Vegara said in an institutional video. In this sense, PIOC representatives announce that they will ask in the district councils that ‘the mayor apologises for his lies’.
Request for a rapid intervention van for emergencies on the coast
PIOC (Partido por la Independencia de la Costa) is also requesting the council to provide a rapid intervention van for the extinguishing of fires in the area. It is a pick-up or similar that can come in the shortest possible time to prepare the ground for the crews that travel from the surrounding villages, mainly Torrevieja.
Unidos x la Costa, in its social networks, has echoed the request of the association Costa de Campoamor regarding the cleaning of the pine and wooded areas ‘where there are many trees, weeds, rubbish… that could favour the formation and/or spread of fires, especially in summer and drought season’. The residents’ association assures that they have conveyed to the councillor for Emergencies, Victor Valverde, “the need to keep all the coastal wadis and pine groves clean and cleared of weeds, reeds, etc., a task which is the responsibility of the Department of the Environment”.
