El concejal de Educación de Orihuela, Vicente Pina, se declaró “bastante satisfecho” con la puesta en marcha del Colegio número 20 de Orihuela Costa, aunque entono el mea culpa por no haberse dirigido antes a las familias para explicar el proceso. Negó categóricamente que se trate de un aulario haciendo hincapié en que se trata de un colegio nuevo, “como cualquier otro que está registrado desde el 20 de enero como centro docente”

A preguntas de PSOE y Cambiemos Orihuela, que forzaron la comparecencia del concejal para explicar una apertura que calificaron de “anómala o caótica, con insuficiente información a las familias”, el concejal del area del equipo de gobierno municipal quiso salir al paso de las acusaciones informando que a fecha de hoy funciona con normalidad albergando a 206 alumnos de los 450 de capacidad, cifra que se alcanzara previsiblemente al inicio del curso que viene.

El concejal aseguró que el centro ha contado con comedor desde el primer día, que las lineas de transporte – tras algún problema inicial que reconoció – funcionaban desde el jueves 14 de enero, que las actividades extraescolares estaban funcionando correctamente y que el centro equipo docente y directivo desde el primer momento.

Pina asumió que la decisión de arrancar el primer día con solo 33 alumnos fue suya al creer que la inauguración se debía hacer “con una derivada de tiempo para adaptarse. Aunque siempre puede faltar algo, yo creo que queda claro que se esta haciendo un trabajo de rigor. Yo estoy bastante satisfecho de que en 18 meses hemos dado sitio a a 450 alumnos”, manifestó el edil para concluir su intervención.

Problemas con la accesibilidad, las extraescolares y el equipo docente

Tanto el PSOE como Cambiemos criticaron la falta de información a las familias, los problemas de accesibilidad del centro – la planta primera no es accesible para discapacitados o personas con movilidad reducida – y que la oposición se enterara por la prensa de la puesta en marcha del colegio.

La portavoz socialista,María García, aseguro que los padres y madres se han sentido abandonados preguntándose quien había detrás de las decisiones. También puso en duda que el equipo docente estuviera completo o que las actividades escolares se estuvieran dando todas en el centro. “No es a nosotros a quien tiene que convencer, hay muchas cosas que deben explicar a las familias”.

Tercer colegio de obra, la ampliación de los Dolses y: ¿son o no son barracones?

Quique Montero de Cambiemos Orihuela reclamó un tercer colegio de ladrillos y la ampliación de Los Dolses cuanto antes: “el colegio número 20 va a estar lleno para final de año por lo que es una solución que no va a ser definitiva con el crecimiento exponencial que esta teniendo la costa”. Montero hizo hincapié en avanzar en la ampliación de Los Dolses que calificó de imprescindible.

También hubo discrepancia sobre la idoneidad de la construcción. Mientras que para Cambiemos Orihuela son barracones “que cuando llegue el verano ya veremos si son tan maravillosos como dicen”, el concejal de educación defendió la construcción como “aulas prefabricadas en perfectas condiciones. Los niños no están en barracones. Yo no he facilitado barracones a ningún niño de Orihuela”.

Vox y Ciudadanos renunciaron a su turno de intervención.

Councillor for Education: ‘quite satisfied’ with Colegio 20 in Orihuela Costa

Orihuela Councillor for Education, Vicente Pina, declared himself ‘quite satisfied’ with the opening of the 20th school in Orihuela Costa, although he did make a mea culpa for not having spoken to families earlier to explain the process. He categorically denied that it is a classroom building, stressing that it is a new school, ‘like any other which has been registered as a teaching centre since 20th January’.

To questions from PSOE and Cambiemos Orihuela, who forced the councillor’s appearance to explain an opening which they described as ‘anomalous or chaotic, with insufficient information for families’, the councillor for the area of the municipal government team wanted to get to the bottom of the accusations by informing that as of today it is functioning normally, accommodating 206 pupils of the 450 capacity, a figure which is expected to be reached at the beginning of next school year.

The councillor assured that the centre has had a canteen from day one, that the transport lines – after some initial problems which he acknowledged – had been running since Thursday 14 January, that the extracurricular activities were functioning correctly and that the centre has had a teaching and management team from the outset.

Pina said that the decision to start on the first day with only 33 pupils was his own, believing that the inauguration should be done ‘with time to adapt. Although something can always be missing, I think it is clear that we are doing a rigorous job. I am quite satisfied that in 18 months we have made room for 450 pupils’, said the mayor to conclude his speech.

Problems with accessibility, extracurricular activities and teaching staff

Both the PSOE and Cambiemos criticised the lack of information for families, the accessibility problems of the centre – the first floor is not accessible for the disabled or people with reduced mobility – and the fact that the opposition found out about the school in the press.

Socialist spokeswoman María García said parents have felt abandoned and wondered who was behind the decisions. She also questioned whether the teaching staff were fully staffed or whether the school activities were all taking place at the centre. ‘It is not up to us to convince them, there are many things that need to be explained to the families.

Third school under construction, the extension of Los Dolses and: are they or are they not barracks?

Quique Montero of Cambiemos Orihuela called for a third brick school and the extension of Los Dolses as soon as possible: ‘School number 20 is going to be full by the end of the year so it is a solution that will not be definitive with the exponential growth that the coast is experiencing’. Montero emphasised the need to make progress on the extension of Los Dolses, which he described as essential.

There was also disagreement over the suitability of the construction. While for Cambiemos Orihuela they are barracks ‘that when the summer arrives we will see if they are as wonderful as they say’, the councillor for education defended the construction as ‘prefabricated classrooms in perfect conditions. The children are not in barracks. I have not provided barracks for any child in Orihuela.
