Cambiemos Orihuela calls for decentralisation and prioritisation of services for Orihuela Costa
In his own social networks, the councillor of Cambiemos Orihuela has echoed the complaint of the residents of Orihuela Costa after the television broadcast of the protest about the state of infrastructure in the area, Quique Montero says that the chaos and lack of management that characterise the town hall is once again harming the usual people, citizens and workers, referring to the precarious situation in which the workers of the company terminated in February find themselves, unpaid and unemployed while awaiting the new contract.
Says the councillor of the Orihuela municipalist group, ‘this week, Orihuela, and specifically Orihuela Costa, was again on national television, this time because of the state of the maintenance of the roads. Last week, the service workers themselves demonstrated at the door of the Town Hall, after two months without pay and without access to unemployment benefits, once the service contract expired. Once again, the chaos and lack of management that characterise our Town Hall are once again evident. And, as always, the most affected are the citizens and the workers.
We have been saying it for a long time: we need more decentralisation and we need to prioritise public services and infrastructures on the coast.
It is unacceptable that we have students crammed into schools that are not being expanded due to a lack of political will. It is unacceptable that new educational or health centres are not being built, or that they take so long to be built, while in a matter of months a plot of land is given to Ribera Salud to build a private hospital. It is unacceptable that the water supply is compromised, especially in summer, and that meanwhile the PP signs an agreement with Hidraqua to put a single water pump at the door of the Town Hall.
I could go on, but it is like banging your head against a wall. The future of Orihuela and Orihuela Costa go hand in hand. Either we change the mentality of urban planning and management, betting on the public sector and the social majority, or we will continue to see Orihuela, its Costa and districts in neglect and inequality’.
