Mas de un millón de personas han podido ver en riguroso directo el estado de las calles de Orihuela Costa en el programa matinal que presenta Adela González en TVE. La televisión publica española traslado a uno de sus reporteros más populares, Andrés Senabre, para atender una convocatoria de los vecinos propiciada por el mapa interactivo elaborado por 100 socios de Unidos x la Costa.
Miembros de esta asociación, simpatizantes de PIOC ( Partido por la Independencia de la Costa) y padres y madres de las ampas del Instituto de Playa Flamenca y los tres colegios de la zona hablaron para toda España desde uno de los puntos negros del litoral oriolano, el acceso al Instituto de Educación Secundaria de Playa Flamenca: un campo de minas de 200 metros de vía impracticable, sin aceras o bordillos, que transitan a diario miles de autos, buses, patinetes y bicicletas.
Quejas sin atender desde hace años, negligencia municipal y accidentes continuos
Los vecinos llevan tiempo monitorizando el estado del mantenimiento de los viales, solicitando por escrito al municipio en plenos o directamente a los ediles encargados. Cuando la contrata de viales rescindió su contrato en febrero pasado decidieron documentar los puntos críticos de la zona con fotos y un mapa interactivo de los baches. Se han contabilizados hasta el momento 170 baches peligrosos (hay más sin señalar todavía), que afectan a 500 de las 700 calles de Orihuela Costa.
Para Unidos , opinión que comparten la generalidad de los vecinos y otras asociaciones, el contrato fue rescindido “por una grave negligencia del equipo municipal que no licitó un nuevo contrato antes de que venciera el anterior. A día de hoy, la costa sigue sin este servicio esencial, hasta que se formalice la encomienda de gestión a una sociedad municipal”, fecha para que el municipio no ha dado plazo.
“Mas asfalto y menos excusas”, el grito de auxilio de los vecinos
Esta mañana, un grupo de más de 50 residentes de varias nacionalidades se ha congregado en las inmediaciones del IES Playa Flamenca para expresar su malestar por la situación de los viales de la costa. En en una conexión en directo de once minutos en la calle Pavo Real han señalado uno de los numerosos puntos negros que se señalan en el mapa interactivo.
Ante las imágenes y las declaraciones de los vecinos, la cara de sorpresa de la presentadora y sus colaboradores no podía ser más elocuente. Una colaboradora experta juridica señalo como responsable del mantenimiento de forma inequivoca al municipio.
El programa dio paso a varios vecinos, entre ellos a Luis Carcedo, histórico de la costa donde ha desarrollado actividades a favor de los derechos de los discapacitados para gobiernos municipales de todo signo político, y unos de los actuales representantes electos de distrito. Carcedo puso en valor las enormes dificultades para el desplazamiento que tiene Orihuela Costa para las personas con movilidad reducida.
Más excusas y balones fuera del Ayuntamiento de Orihuela
El programa contacto con el ayuntamiento oriolano. Desde el consistorio se aseguró que hay prometidos más de dos millones para el asfaltado de las calles de la costa. También mostraron su extrañeza ya que, en su opinión, los vecinos no protestaban con el anterior equipo de gobierno. La cifra está en cuestión por cuanto no está claro si esta cantidad es solo para la costa, incluye otras pedanías en mal estado o que calles se van a asfaltar. El asfaltado tampoco incluyen las aceras, pasos de peatón, los carriles bici o la señalización, en parecido mal estado que los viales.
En otras ocasiones se ha argumentado desde el consistorio que el solar de la calle Pavo Real donde se ubica la calle que une Orihuela Costa a través de una pasarela sobre la autopista es de propiedad particular ( ¡?) , razón por la que no se ha acometido -según el ayuntamiento – su construcción.
La vecina que se encontraba en directo en aquel momento puso en duda la promesa : “la hemos oído tantas veces que hasta que no arreglen no nos lo creemos” ; y negó que solo se proteste ahora : “llevamos quejándonos años y nos dan igual los unos o los otros ,lo que queremos es que se arregle de una vez” . En la entrevista aseguró que lo ultimo que ha hecho el ayuntamiento es echar tierra para tapar los baches , pero que “las lluvias de marzo se ha llevado la tierra y sigue como siempre”.
Nerviosismo del alcalde, poca transparencia y falta de talante democrático
Para Unidos x la Costa” la respuesta del Ayuntamiento sólo demuestra el nerviosismo del alcalde, los concejales y los asesores ante la respuesta vecinal e incide en la falta de transparencia y de talante democrático. Es fácil comprobar nuestro trabajo a lo largo de los siete años de vida de la asociación y es sencillo preguntar a los miembros de la anterior corporación si están de acuerdo con esas afirmaciones”.

Adela González shows on TVE ‘the pothole route of Orihuela Costa’.
More than a million people have been able to see the state of the streets of Orihuela Costa on the morning programme presented by Adela González on TVE. The Spanish public television station sent one of its most popular reporters, Andrés Sanabre, to attend a call from the local residents, prompted by the interactive map drawn up by 100 members of Unidos x la Costa.
Members of this association, supporters of PIOC (Partido por la Independencia de la Costa) and parents of the ampas of the Instituto de Playa Flamenca and the three schools in the area spoke to the whole of Spain from one of the black spots of the Orihuela coastline, the access to the Secondary School of Playa Flamenca: a minefield of 200 metres of impracticable road, without pavements or kerbs, crossed daily by thousands of cars, buses, scooters and bicycles.
Complaints unattended for years, municipal negligence and continuous accidents.
Neighbours have been monitoring the state of maintenance of the roads for some time, making written requests to the municipality in plenary sessions or directly to the councillors in charge. When the road contracting company terminated its contract last February, they decided to document the critical points in the area with photos and an interactive map of the potholes. The result so far has been 170 dangerous potholes (there are more yet to be identified) affecting 500 of Orihuela Costa’s 700 streets.
For Unidos, an opinion shared by the majority of residents and other associations, the contract was terminated ‘due to serious negligence on the part of the municipal team who did not tender a new contract before the previous one expired. As of today, the coast is still without this essential service, until the management entrustment to a municipal company is formalised’, a date for which the municipality has not given a deadline.

‘More asphalt and less excuses’, the cry for help from neighbours
This morning, a group of more than 50 residents of various nationalities gathered in the vicinity of IES Playa Flamenca, to express their discomfort in a live connection that lasted 11 minutes. Pavo Real street is one of the black spots marked on the map.
Before the images and the statements of the neighbours, the face of the presenter, the popular Adela González, and collaborators, including a lawyer who explained that the responsibility for this street is clearly municipal, could not have been more eloquent.
The programme gave way to several neighbours, among them Luis Carcedo, a historian of the coast where he has carried out activities in favour of the rights of the disabled for municipal governments of all political persuasions, and one of the current elected representatives of the district.
More excuses from the Ayuntamiento of Orihuela
The programme contacted the Orihuela Town Hall. The council assured us that more than two million euros had been promised for the asphalting of the streets along the coast. They also expressed their surprise that, in their opinion, the residents were not protesting with the previous government team. The figure is in question because it is not clear whether this amount is only for the coast, whether it includes other districts in poor condition, which streets are to be asphalted. The asphalting also does not include pavements, pedestrian crossings or cycle paths or signposting, which are in a similar bad state to the roads.
On other occasions it has been argued that the site on Calle Pavo Real where the street which links Orihuela Costa via a footbridge over the motorway is located is privately owned (!?) , which is why – according to the Ayuntamiento – it has not been repaired but built, as it is a stretch of some 300 metres with bare asphalt, much of it dirt, no pavements or pedestrian crossings, and no signposting.
The neighbour who was on live at the time questioned the promise: ‘we have heard it so many times that until they don’t fix it we don’t believe it’; and denied that they are only protesting now: ‘we have been complaining for years and we don’t care about either one or the other, what we want is for it to be fixed once and for all’. In the interview he said that the last thing the council had done was to pour earth to fill the potholes, but ‘the rains in March have washed away the earth and it is still the same as ever’.
Nervousness of the mayor, lack of transparency and lack of democratic spirit
For ‘Unidos x la Costa’ the response of the Town Hall only shows the nervousness of the mayor, the councillors and the advisors in the face of the neighbourhood’s response, and highlights the lack of transparency and a lack of democratic spirit. It is easy to check our work over the seven years of the association’s existence and it is easy to ask the members of the previous corporation if they agree with these statements’.
